Bowers Shrimp Farm is a family owned aquaculture facility located upon 475 acres of converted rice fields in Collegeport, Texas. The shrimp farm has been producing premium, sustainable, farm raised shrimp for over twenty-eight years.
The goal of our farm from the outset has been to produce a superior, sustainable, product which is pleasing to the consumer and low-impact on the environment. Our shrimp are grown using the waters of Matagorda Bay; we never use hormones or antibiotics in the raising of our shrimp. We grow only Pacific White Shrimp, which most people consider to have a slightly sweeter taste than oceanic shrimp, and are delicious fried, grilled, boiled or however one prefers to prepare. We pride ourselves on the quality of shrimp which we produce and we know the quality of this product is what has made us the largest producer of domestic grown shrimp in the United States. However, we also realize we could not attain this lofty position without a first-rate facility and the well-planned processes which we have developed over the years
The shrimp farm has its own indoor nursery located on-site. This indoor facility was built by Reed Bowers in 2013 and allows us to double stock the ponds each year, greatly increasing the production ability of the shrimp farm. From the time, they leave our nursery and are placed in one of our ninety on-site shrimp ponds it takes three to four months for our shrimp to reach maturity. The growth rate and feed intake of the shrimp are carefully monitored during this entire process before they are harvested at a market determined size. Once harvested the shrimp are processed in our processing facility. Our product is sold fresh, individually quick frozen (IQF) in bulk or retail ready bags depending on a buyer’s needs.
